Houseboat Emily Louise opens up a world of adventure for disabled holidaymakers

2022 has seen our desire to open up houseboat holidays to new audiences come to fruition with the creation of WA’s finest on-water tourism experience for people with disabilities.

Emily Louise is the latest addition to the Mandurah Houseboats fleet, cruising the pristine Peel Inlet and the iconic Murray River in Western Australia. Built by a local boat builder, Emily Louise is Western Australia’s first purpose-built commercial houseboat charter vessel specifically designed for disabled or mobility-restricted guests.

The range of features on Emily Louise include amongst other things, a ramp to ensure easy entry and egress, a wheelchair-friendly wide central corridor and a bathroom with a wheel-in shower. Importantly, the helm position has been specifically designed so that wheelchair users are not limited to being passengers but can actively participate and steer the boat.

Emily Louise is an amazing experience for people in wheelchairs who may have previously been excluded from marine adventure holidays.

In addition, Emily Louise features a fully equipped galley that includes a microwave and Nespresso coffee machine; reverse cycle air-conditioning for those hot summer nights while the boat also has a luxurious spa on her large rear deck, as well as a BBQ and outdoor table and chairs.
